Experienced horse owners and MECTA members in central Aroostook county seeking sound, healthy horse to purchase ($500-$2500) or free lease. Horse should be suitable to be trained for lower-level eventing and pleasurable on the trail and in the ring. We are looking for that special horse to join our family for the long term, though we’re open to a shorter-term free lease if the right opportunity comes along.
Do you know a horse looking for a home who is:
Forward-moving and responsive to the aids, but not spooky or fearful
Well-started under saddle, and willing to walk, trot, and canter on both leads
(Prior experience with cavelletti and jumping helpful, but not necessary)
Road and trail safe, alone and with other horses
Able to carry 250 lbs.
Willing to stand still for farrier, grooming, and mounting
Friendly with other horses and handlers – no uber-alphas need apply!
No kicking, biting, rearing, or bucking
More about us: As a teenager, Erica brought her Anglo-Arab mare from crossrails to successfully competing at Novice level eventing. During college, she was a barn manager at a hunter-jumper barn in Florida. After a ten-year hiatus to become a working stiff and homeowning adult, she got back into the horse community, became a barn manager at a therapeutic riding center, and got certified as a NARHA instructor.
Kate grew up with an assortment of backyard ponies and managed to stay on despite all sorts of pony tricks. As an adult, she took her first lesson a few years ago and is working on rebuilding her confidence as a rider, learning her diagonals and leads, and eventually trying a jump or two just in case we come to a fallen tree trunk on the trail.
We’d like a horse somewhere in between green and bombproof, who will be an interesting but safe ride for both of us. If you know of a horse who would fit the bill, please contact us at 207-896-3330 or quineast@hotmail.com. Thanks! (posted 6/15/08)
